It is a requirement of Control of Noise at Work Regulation 2005 to appoint a Competent Adviser to oversee noise health surveillance programs.
Many Occupational Health providers lack the internal expertise to fulfil this legal obligation. The role requires audiological expertise, a robust understanding of Health and Safety legislation around noise and associated experience in recommending appropriate resultant control measures. Furthermore, an acute understanding of when hearing loss of any origin or any other otological conditions represents a risk to health and safety.
Both Melanie Brewster and Dr Benjamin France provide this service on a independent expert basis. This eliminates risk of less well-informed advice when providing the service in house.
